Description

GTT(Glucose tolerance test) : Test involves ingestion of fixed amount of glucose and subsequent blood samples taken at timed interval, to check for blood glucose levels. Test is used to help diagnose prediabetes and diabetes and in some cases to screen for diabetes. Test is also ordered in pregnant patient at risk of developing gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy).

PATIENT PREPARATION

Fasting for 10-12 hrs before first sample is mandatory. Then patient is given 75/100 gms glucose orally, subsequently blood and urine samples taken at timed interval.
