Description
Test measures blood levels of lactate , a substance produced as result of cell metabolism. Test is done to detect high levels of lactate, which may be indication of lack of oxygen (shock, heart attack, severe congestive heart failure etc. or presence of other conditions that cause excessive production or insufficient clearing of lactate from blood (such as sepsis, kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes).
