Description
PROLACTIN : Test measures blood level of prolactin, a hormone secreted by gland at base of brain (pituitary gland). Higher level of prolactin often found in pregnant & breast feeding women. Higher level of prolactin can lead to nipple discharge , irregular periods & infertility in non pregnant women & decreased libido and infertility in men. High level of prolactin is seen in case with tumer of pituitary gland ( prolactinoma), disease of liver,kidney & hypothalamus , hypothyroidism , polycystic cvery syndrome.
