Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is technique to determine composition of a stone with respect to nature and percentage of compounds present in stone. It has adventage over conventional methods that it recognizes small fractions of multiple components. Test is done to evaluate composition of stone in order to determine cause of stone formation; to help guide treatment; to help prevent formation of more stones.
