CORTISOL: Test detects blood levels of cortisol, a hormone plays a role in metabolism of protein, lipids & carbohydrate; helps maintain blood preasure ; helps regulate immune system. Test can also be done in urine or saliva sample. Test done to help diagnose cushing syndrome, primary/ secondary adrenal insufficiency [Addition’s disease] , to detect conditions affecting pituitary or adrenal glands.
