Description

APTT ( Activated partial thromboplastin time): APTT is blood test that measures number of seconds it takes blood to clot. It may be ordered along with prothombin time (PT) to evaluate unexplained bleeding or clotting. It is used to identify coagulation factor deficiency , to detect autoantibodies associated with clotting episodes & recurrent miscarriages (eg. lupus anticoagulant , Antiphospholipid antibody). Test also used to monitor heparin anticoagulant therapy. It may be ordered pre operatively in patients with history of bleeding.
